East Coast Refinishing provides abrasive blasting services for fabricated steel, structural assemblies, pressure vessels, tanks, equipment frames, and industrial components from our facility in Pittsfield, MA.


Blasting is performed in enclosed booths to SSPC/AMPP surface preparation standards, with media and cleanliness levels selected based on the substrate and the coating system going on after. Because coating is done in the same building, blasted components move directly into the paint booths without re-exposure between steps.


We hold a GSA Contract (#47QSHA22D002M) and provide documentation for projects that require it.

Surface Preparation Standards

Surface preparation is done to SSPC/AMPP cleanliness standards with media and profile selected based on the substrate, the coating system being applied, and the project specification. Work can be performed to the following:


  • SSPC/AMPP surface preparation standards
  • Project and engineer-specified cleanliness levels
  • Manufacturer technical data sheet requirements
  • MIL-SPEC surface preparation requirements when applicable


Abrasive Media

Media selection is based on the substrate material, required surface profile, and the coating system going over it. We stock and work with the following:


  • Aluminum oxide — available in multiple grits for varying profile requirements
  • Glass bead — for lighter cleaning and smoother finishes
  • Specialty and low-aggressive media for sensitive substrates or tight tolerances


Quality Control

Every component is inspected before it moves out of the blast booth. We check surface cleanliness visually against the specified standard and verify surface profile using a Positector Advanced inspection tool. Environmental conditions are monitored to prevent flash rust between blasting and coating. Documentation packages are available for projects that require inspection records, coating logs, or compliance submittals.


Integrated Blasting & Coating

Abrasive blasting and protective coating are both performed in the same facility. Components move from the blast booth directly to one of our two climate-controlled paint booths without leaving the building. This eliminates re-exposure time between surface prep and application, reduces the risk of flash rust and surface contamination, and keeps the job on a tighter schedule. For projects where both blasting and coating are required, we handle the full scope under one roof.
